I was thinking about the website aspect of this, since this software would be generating a website, and how people would upload these online, where they would go, and how we would manage all of this.
First - We should look into getting a domain name and a server. I checked, and "LinguisticLibrary.org" is free. Then there could be subdomains for the languages, like "sindarin-english.linguisticlibrary.org" or "sindarin-français.linuisticlibrary.org". We could refer to the subdomains as "wings of the library".
I think that the URL shouldn't mention a specific language because we want this library to be for languages other than just Sindarin.
The splash-page for each wing would have a directory of all of the translations, and it would have a customizable intro, with links to the community that edits and maintains the morphosyntax and submits translations.
For members, I think that there should be 3 types of member:
Non-member: Can read any book in our library, temporarily (with cookies) modify the look of the website, make text bigger, reverse the colors so there's a dark background, basic stuff for people who have vision problems, but that's it.
Readers: Can tag any book in our library, and have access to any social aspect of the website - comments, forums, blogs, whatever.
Translators: Can publish/upload translations into the library. Must have the software to do that. Can apply to make a new "wing" of the library for a new language, and apply to be the Curator of that Wing.
Curators: Watch out for spam, copyright issues, trolls, maintain the splash page for that wing. We'd want at least one per a "wing" of our library, meaning that they'd have to be able to speak at least the two languages for the Wing.
The pre-made annotations for a wing of the library - the morphosyntax tree, should be downloadable/uploadable with our software.
People should be able to make and submit translations of the software/website interface into other languages, so people could easily interact with the website and software in their own languages.
I don't know how much social stuff we want to put on this website... that stuff is a pain to maintain. I think no more than a translator-only comment system on translations should be enough. For anything more than that, there's plenty of free forums/social media they could use that we don't have to involve.
Another idea I have is for profile-pages for members that include reading lists & a list of the tags they follow, with the option of making their profile page public or private. That way one of Mrs. Soandso's students could go to their profiles and see a list of all of the translations that they're reading, all of the tags that their following, so if Mrs. Soandso added a new reading assignment by tagging it, the student, who is subscribed to that tag, would be able to view their assignment without searching the whole library for it.
