Hey guys So, I know I've been kinda off radar here, but I've been in the background brainstorming about potential ways to congeal all the great ideas Fifi had about a linguistic library hub. We've just purchased the www.linguisticlibrary.org domain, and right now it has a placeholder page, but I think it would be really cool if we could design the hub site to feel like a library environment.. something like this:
This is just a concept, but I thought it would feel inviting to visitors if all the wings of the library were listed along the sides (implying that each wing is a section or hall in the library). As more Curators added their wings, the lists would populate automatically and you could scroll down on either side. A visitor could browse through the lists and hover over each title to see a popup box with information about the specific languages, the Curator, others involved in translations, and a link to their external site. I think having a search function to easily locate a specific wing would be important as well, for those who knew what languages they wanted to find. There are several links that I think would be useful as well, including a download link for the software and language packs, an about page to let new visitors know about our project, a support link that will go to a troubleshooting forum, and an obvious donate button to help us keep the site up and running!
What do you guys think of all of this? Any ideas about the design and content, or how we could make the interface more user-friendly?
