So as you've likely seen, we've reached over $5,000 on the campaign! We were originally only going to produce the Sindarin morphology presets on launch, but with these stretch goals we can kickstart the expansion of this "hub"'s reach with 10 languages total: - Neo-Sindarin
- Neo-Quenya
- Spanish
- French
- Japanese
- German
- Mandarin
- Na'vi
- [to be determined]
- [to be determined]
I'll have to find a fluent linguist for each of these additional languages and ask for their help in creating a morphology tree. Then hunt online for dictionary sources, and convert them to the format of the software. Also hunt for script images for Mandarin and its many many symbols. D: 10 language packs for the additional $1,000 breaks at about $100 per language. But I have to pay kickstarter fees and perk fees, which leaves about $50-$75 towards each language pack's creation. If any of you know any linguist fluent in these languages who has some spare time and would be willing to sit down and write a morphology tree for $50-$75 or so, please let me know. ^.^ My main contact right now is Simon Ager from Omniglot.com, who was really nice and willing to help our campaign, and has some fluency in most of these languages. So I'll contact him, but anyone else you know could also help. (: I've also been wondering about asking David Salo if he'd want to have a "wing" for Dwarvish. It'd be interesting to have a Dwarvish-to-Sindarin setup, for example, wouldn't it?

I had a request from someone on my Sindarin forum for a Portuguese language pack as they noticed there were still two free slots. Have the remaining two languages been decided, or is this on hold for the moment?

Oh, right. I don't think I ever posted this, but I did a tally for the comments/requests made, and it came out something like this: (and now, also including your member's vote)8 Latin 6 Portuguese 6 Klingon 5 Irish (Gaelic) 5 Arabic 4 Khuzdul 4 Esperanto 3 Swedish 4 Russian 3 Greek 3 Dothraki 2 Italian 2 Hebrew 2 German 2 Chinese 1 Vulcan 1 Swahili 1 Old Icelandic 1 Na’vi 1 Lojban 1 Hylian 1 Greenlandic 1 Cantonese 1 Sanskirt 1 Eesti 1 Cherokee & Navajo I realized that maybe the list of 8 I gave was too predetermined, and two slots don't allow for enough flexibility considering the interest. So cutting it down a bit more to 6 - giving 4 slots, I think we could do: - Neo-Sindarin - Neo-Quenya - Spanish - Japanese - Mandarin - Na'vi ////Top 4 Voted//// - Latin - Portuguese - Klingon - Irish/Gaelic So Portuguese is on the list right now. This may change depending on new requests, the difficulty of the morphology tree or availability of linguists. For example, if we can't find someone fluent in Irish but do find someone fluent in Arabic, we could go for that instead. Though I'm not too terribly concerned about the languages atm, since I think all major languages will have a morphology tree eventually -- considering this will be a free/open software. What's worrisome is that I think some backers may be afraid that if their language isn't on the first list of 10, then the software won't be usable in that language. I hope we can clear this up eventually.

You might indeed be lucky to find someone fluent in Irish Gaelic! It's taught in schools, but very few can actually speak it fluently as a L2 let alone a L1. Interesting that the vast majority of the languages being chosen for a pack at the moment are constructed or relexicalised/reconstructed too.

I know right? I think it's so great. Gosh, is it really that hard? <.< Irish-Gaelic is another one of those I really wanna learn. Maybe because it seems so elvish already.

A Google search for "Irish-Gaelic" turned up quite a few results (including a YouTube video of a delightful redheaded lass teaching us to curse). This one was at the top of the list: Fluent in 3 MonthsI do not have any association with this guy, but given the amount of information he seems to have available, I would think that there are enough resources out there to put something together. I'm not sure if Benny himself would help, since it seems he has his own commercial enterprise going. But I'm confident that someone could be found without too much trouble that is willing to help out for 50 quid.
